Quantification of Glutamate and Glutamine using CT-PRESS at 3T

چکیده
Introduction Glutamate (Glu) and glutamine (Gln) are two major neurochemicals in the central nervous system. Quantifying Glu and Gln in vivo using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) has been of particular interest to basic science for understanding the Glu/Gln component of the Krebs cycle and its alteration by neuropsychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy and alcoholism. However, quantification of Glu and Gln using conventional in vivo MRS techniques such as PRESS or STEAM at clinically available field strength, e.g. 1.5-3T, is difficult because of the multiplet structure of the coupled resonances and signal overlap.

Reliability of Glutamate Quantification in Human Nucleus Accumbens Using Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy at a 70-cm Wide-Bore Clinical 3T MRI System
The human nucleus accumbens is a challenging region to study using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) on a 70-cm wide-bore clinical 3T MRI system. The aim of this study was to investigate the reliability for quantitative measurement of glutamate concentration in the nucleus accumbens using a 70-cm wide-bore clinical 3T MRI. 1H-MRS of the nucleus accumbens was acquired using the Poi...

In vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) enables non-invasive longitudinal tracking of brain chemistry changes that can accompany aging, neurodegenerative disease, drug addiction and experimental manipulations in animals modeling such conditions. J-coupled resonances, such as glutamate, which are highly relevant to neuropsychiatric conditions are difficult to resolve on a clinical 3T MR sc...

متن کاملSimultaneous Quantification of γ-aminobutyric acid, Glutamate, and Glutamine at 3T
BACKGROUND: γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamate (Glu) and glutamine (Gln) are three important neurochemicals comprising a tightly coupled spin system. The coupling of this system and their low concentrations in brain typically render GABA MRS-invisible and Glu/Gln indistinguishable (and represented as the composite peak Glx) on standard clinical PRESS scans. Investigations by Hu et al. [1] ha...

Introduction Glutamate plays an important role in normal brain function and in brain disorders. Recently, MRS measurement of total glutamate concentration has been applied to studying several neurological and psychiatric disorders. Short-TE single voxel MRS methods cannot separate glutamate from overlapping resonances at field strengths accessible to most clinical studies. As a result, spectral...
